Day 1: Measuring and Celebrating Our Social Impact Every Step of the Way

At the Kyoto Foundation, we are committed from day one to measuring and reporting our social impact in a dynamic, engaging, and informative manner. We want to thank our supporters, donors, and sponsors while showcasing the incredible work being done to cultivate creativity, sustainability awareness, and environmental stewardship among Uganda’s youth.

My Social Impact (MSI), a new pioneering consulting firm helped to create the Kyoto Foundation, and so uses the Kyoto Foundation to show that they practice what they preach – showing best practice in Social Value creation and Impact Reporting – with bells on.

So, how will we capture and convey our social value and impact throughout the year? We understand that it goes beyond mere numbers; we strive to bring the human stories alive, making our stakeholders not only understand but also feel good about their contributions. Let’s take a look at some of the key metrics we gather and how we review them on a weekly basis, just like we would with profit and loss accounts – this ensures we can continually improve out methods ad make sure we are on track to meet our social impact objectives.

  1. Impact on Education: We measure the number of children enrolled in our art school, but we go further. We share individual success stories, highlighting how our programs have transformed lives, nurtured talents, and opened doors to new opportunities.

  2. Environmental Sustainability: We track the quantity of waste recycled through our projects. However, we also document the stories behind these efforts, such as interviewing local residents who have adopted sustainable practices, showcasing the positive impact on the community and the environment.

  3. Youth Empowerment: We not only count the number of youth engaged in our initiatives but also provide platforms for them to share their experiences and achievements. Through blog posts, interviews, and video testimonials, we amplify their voices and celebrate their growth.

  4. Community Engagement: We measure the level of involvement from local residents, governments, and businesses. Additionally, we capture testimonials and interviews with community members, illustrating how their collaboration with the Kyoto Foundation has strengthened the local economy and improved quality of life.

  5. Global Awareness: We leverage social media platforms like Instagram and others to share visually compelling content. Through captivating images, videos, and stories, we present Uganda’s creativity, innovation, and talent to a global audience, sparking interest, engagement, and potential partnerships.

By reviewing these metrics on a weekly basis, we ensure that we are making progress and heading in the right direction. This constant evaluation helps us identify areas for improvement, adjust strategies, and celebrate milestones along the way. At the end of the year, we consolidate all the data and insights into a comprehensive social impact report. This report is shared with all our stakeholders, including donors, supporters, volunteers, staff, governments, suppliers, founders, and corporate sponsors worldwide.
